Your First Visits to DHA Orthodontics

First Examination

A complimentary visit is scheduled to get acquainted with you. At that appointment, we will evaluate the teeth, jaws, facial profile and bite. We welcome your questions and your comments. We will make every effort to answer the following questions for you:

  • Is there an orthodontic problem present or developing?
  • When is the best time to consider treatment?
  • How long might treatment take?
  • What might treatment cost?
  • What insurance and payment arrangements are available?

After you have scheduled your appointment, you will receive a registration packet in the mail. Please complete the information requested prior to your visit and bring this along with any insurance information.

Diagnostic Records

If treatment is recommended, we will schedule a 30-minute appointment to take orthodontic diagnostic records. Records consist of x-rays of the teeth and jaws, impressions (molds) of the teeth and photographs of the teeth and face. This information is necessary to determine our treatment recommendations.

Each orthodontic case is unique and the treatment plan is tailored for each individual. Approximately three or more hours are required to process the records and for the doctor to prepare a treatment plan.

Consultation

A consultation is scheduled to explain the orthodontic problems and to discuss treatment solutions. We will also review the estimated length of treatment, the cost of treatment, insurance benefits and financial (payment) arrangements. It is best if both parents and patient attend the consultation.

Recall Program

At the initial examination, if we determine that it is too early for treatment, we will recommend a follow-up visit in six, nine or twelve months. A reminder will be sent at the appropriate time. There is no charge for your recall visits (unless an x-ray is needed).

These periodic recall evaluations can be very important in monitoring the growth and development of the teeth and jaws. Often we can intercept developing problems and prevent a worsening orthodontic condition.
